and continuing on Wednesdays after Ash Wednesday
Our study series for Lent will be introduced on Sunday, March 5 at 11:30AM. Wednesday sessions (March 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 5) will be accompanied by Soup-Salad-Bread Dinners at 6:00 PM. Soup is provided; salads and breads are potluck.
“Plenty Good Room: A Lenten Bible Study based on African American Spirituals” is a 6-part series of reflections on scripture and the music that first arose on plantations in the antebellum South. Each 45-minute session will study a spiritual in the light of the Gospel, history, tradition, and experience. A concurrent children’s musical program will accompany the series.
This unique short-term Bible study combines an in-depth look at Scripture, American history, and the music and lyrics of six African American spirituals. The six-session study provides biblical, social, and historical analyses of the spirituals: “Ev’ry Time I Feel the Spirit,” “This Lonesome Valley,” “Bow Down on Your Knees,” “Plenty Good Room,” “Ain’t Dat Good News,” and “Were You There?”
