Help Feed Webster International Students!
Webster U International Students’ Crucial Needs Being Supplied by Emmanuel Church’s Food Center (revised list)
First, while these necessities have been most urgent during the summer, it turns out that they are also critically needed during the rest of the year, since Webster U. isn’t set up to meet their dietary needs. Second, here is a revised list of what Emmanuel’s Food Center needs to help meet their needs. Note: at least 110 Web U international students are essentially fully dependent on the Center for these necessities:
- Most Needed
- Cooking oil of any kind (generic “vegetable,” canola, etc.). Just get the cheapest. The Center needs lots and lots of this staple every week!
- Donations (cash or check made out to “Emmanuel’s Food Center) to help them purchase special items from an international food supply (see next).
- Don’t buy – let the Food Center buy from their international food supplier, where they get a sizable discount:
- Lentils (lentils are one of the students’ favorite food items, but they only eat a special type of lentil)
- Rice (same as lentils)
- Always needed:
- Beans, either canned or dry; the students prefer white (cannellini, Gr Northern) over the other
- Canned tuna
- Peanut butter (any type or brand)
- Sweet items!!
- Cake and brownie mixes, in particular. They love these!
- No sugar-added canned fruit (“in their own juice,” not heavy syrup!)
- Spices (e.g., garlic & onion powders) and spicey sauces
- Canned oats
- (Toilet paper needed over the summer; may or may not be needed during the school year.)
- Do NOT get (the international students won’t eat these):
- Pork and Beans
- Anything with beef additives
- Food stuffs with lots of ingredients and/or “highly processed.”
- Finally, when dropping your donations off at Emmanuel’s Food Center, please ask the attendant to store your donations in the special section reserved for the Webster U international students!
