Seventh Sunday after Pentecost
July 3, 2016
Sacrament of Christ’s Table celebrated; Independence Day weekend
Message of the Day: “LXX”
Considering the parallel between Jesus’ 70 disciples sent forth, and the tradition that the Greek version of the Hebrew scriptures was composed by 70 translators, might it be that our own discipleship is bound up in the idea of getting the Word out to people in ways that they can understand and appreciate?
Music for today’s worship includes two hymns by Congregationalist authors – Lloyd Larson and Catherine Lee Bates, both of whom have had a wide effect with their words on the very notions of nationalism and humility, especially in the United States.
