19th Sunday after Pentecost

The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31) ends with a cynical statement by Abraham from heaven:
If they don’t listen to Moses and the Prophets, then neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead! (Luke 16:31)
This stands in stark contrast to the hopefulness presented in the prophet Jeremiah’s purchase of an evidently worthless property (Jeremiah 32:9-15). In the prophet’s case God’s own word proclaims,
Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.
Pastor Dave Denoon offers his perspective on these words in a message of the day entitled, “A Strange Hope.” What about you? Are you cynical or hopeful about people and the future?
Music for this Sunday will include the Progressive Christian recording artist and student of the Psalms Richard Bruxvoort Colligan. Richard will accompany the Congregation and Chancel Choir in singing his songs. And he’ll offer a solo or two in his gentle but passion-filled repertoire.
