The Organ in a New Light, POSTPONED
The slightly belated 30th anniversary celebration of the David VerHagen Memorial sanctuary organ, with organist John Powel Walsh in a program entitled, “The Organ in a New Light,” will sadly be still more belated, having been unavoidably POSTPONED.
John’s experience includes service as organist of the St. Louis Bach Society and the St. Louis Abbey. This free program which will take place at a new date and time (to be announced) will include music which, as John puts it, “really should have been written for the organ!” This will include arrangements of familiar pieces by Copland, Verdi, Handel, Mozart, Sousa, and even more who, it turns out, really should have considered how good their master works would have sounded when played by a musician employing all four limbs at once!
Our sanctuary instrument was created by Casavante Frères organ builders of Montreal, Canada. Its purchase was made possible by a generous donation in 1994 from Jan & Katy VerHagen in loving memory of their son David.
