Black History Tour, Saturday, April 5
An AMAZING! St. Louis Black History Tour
Saturday, April 5, 9:45am – 2:00pm
Father Gerry Kleba, Tour Director
Father Gerry Kleba is a life-long St. Louisan. As a priest, he has served in multiple different roles through out the St. Louis City area, frequently involving interactions with different African American communities and typically with a focus on justice and equity issues. Based on his experiences, he has developed a 3-hour bus tour of multiple St. Louis sites that are crucially important for understanding African American history and culture in our region. To read Rev. Kleba’s extensive notes on the various sites on the tour, click here.
The cost of the tour is $10, paid in cash at the beginning of the tour. The tour will last from 9:45am to 1:00pm, followed by a bring-your-own lunch with discussion, from ~1-2 p. Reservations are filled on a first come, first served basis.
The Peace and Justice team hopes to assemble a group of interested First Church congregants, to attend Fr. Kleba’s fascinating and provocative tour together. Saturday, April 5, will be the day.
Of note about the tour is that St. Louis brothers and film-makers, documentarian Tony West and animator Marlon West, have created an excellent film about it. The film is expected to be released locally soon. They would first like for it to be accepted for presentation at a film festival.
REGISTER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT by clicking here. This will be an outstanding learning opportunity for adults and youngsters alike, and we encourage all congregants and their families and friends to mark their calendars for Saturday, April 5!
